Worst ankle seen by doctors, Correa did not participate in the WBC “It’s not because of the injury”

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (29) will not participate in the World Baseball Classic (WBC). It is not because of an injury, but because of scheduling problems following the birth of the second child.

On the 7th (Korean time), the official website of Major League Baseball, ‘MLB.com’, announced that Correa would not be joining the Puerto Rico team to be held next month. Correa led Puerto Rico to second place at the 2017 WBC and was named the best third baseman of the tournament.

Correa, a two-time Major League All-Star shortstop, was at the center of attention this winter after his free agent contract was cancelled. He agreed to a 13-year, $350 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, the highest contract for a shortstop in history, but it was canceled after a physical examination revealed a problem with his right ankle.

When the contract was canceled ahead of the San Francisco joining conference, agent Scott Boras reached an agreement with the New York Mets for 12 years and $315 million. But again, the physical revealed an ankle problem, and it fell apart as the Mets attempted to amend the contract.

In 2014, when he was in the minor leagues, he had a fracture in his right calf and a ligament joint surgery, which became a problem. In the end, Correa signed a six-year, $200 million guaranteed contract with his original team, Minnesota, on a 10-year, $270 million, up to $270 million contract, depending on incentives.  메이저놀이터

Minnesota’s physical exam revealed no major problems, but Correa’s ankle condition remains a worrisome factor. It’s like a time bomb that doesn’t know when it will explode. On the 4th, the ‘New York Post’ also reported a skeptical reaction from a doctor who examined Correa’s ankle condition. “It was the worst ankle condition I’ve ever seen,” said the doctor, who requested anonymity.

However, this WBC absence is not an injury-related problem. Correa’s wife, Daniela, is due to give birth to her second son, Kenzo, on the 12th of next month. Puerto Rico will play the first round schedule in Group D from the 12th to the 16th. Correa contemplated whether to participate, but decided not to participate after consulting with the Minnesota club. As the schedule for the birth of the second child overlaps with the WBC, I saw the reality that it will be difficult to get into a normal condition before the opening game of the major league scheduled for March 31st.

Derek Palvey, president of Minnesota Baseball Operations, said, “After careful consideration with Correa, we have come to the conclusion that not participating in the WBC is the most beneficial. He was a difficult decision for Correa. He takes great pride in representing his country. But looking at the WBC and the schedule for the birth of his second child, he cannot be in a position to play meaningfully right away when he returns.
