U-20 soccer team defeats Ecuador to advance to World Cup quarterfinals
Head coach Kim Eun-joong’s South Korea U-20 soccer team defeated Ecuador to advance to the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup.
The team won 3-2 in the round of 16 match at the Santiago del Estero Stadium in Argentina on Sunday (Feb. 2).
Lee Young-joon (Gimcheon) scored in the 11th minute and Bae Joon-ho (Daejeon) in the 19th minute, but the Koreans conceded a penalty in the 36th minute. Choi Seok-hyun (Dankook University) scored the winner in the third minute of the second half, and despite conceding in the 39th minute, Korea held on for the one-goal victory.
With the win, the Korean National Team advanced to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive tournament, following the 2019 edition in Poland.메이저놀이터
South Korea has reached the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup six times in its history (1983-1991-2009-2013-2019-2023). Their best result was a runner-up finish at the 2019 tournament.
