‘Surprise Idoryu’, a foreign pitcher, perfect in the 3rd inning → first home run in the 4th inning → 1 run in the 6th inning…mistake-mistake-mistake-mistake, and a big loss.
Foreign pitcher Sisnid of the Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball hit his first home run in three years in Japan. The two-run homer was enough to win the game, but a series of defensive errors cost him the win.
Cisniewski started the game against the Yomiuri Giants on May 5 at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Japan. He went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts.
The first through third innings were perfect. He faced nine batters. Ended the first inning with two infield grounders and a strikeout, and the second with three infield grounders. In the third, he retired the next two batters after a pitcher’s choice.
With a 1-0 lead in the fourth, Sisnid allowed a leadoff single to Takayuki Kajitani, who advanced to second after the center fielder fumbled the ball once. A sacrifice bunt put runners on first and third, and an infield single by the second baseman tied the game at 1-1. It was an unearned run.
After tying the game in the bottom of the fourth, Yakult’s offense came up with a surprise home run that no one saw coming. With two outs and one on, Sisnid hit a fastball right down the middle of the plate from starter Yamazaki for a two-run home run over the left field fence. Yakult retook the lead, 3-1.
It was Yakult’s first home run in Japan in three years. “The home fans went into a frenzy, and Takatsu and his teammates in the dugout were greeted with expressions of surprise,” Japanese media reported.
Prior to the game, Sisnid had batted .551 with 88 hits and eight RBIs in 101 at-bats in 55 games over three years. He had one double and three RBIs. His surprise home run came in his 103rd at-bat in Japan.
In the fifth inning on the mound, Sisnid gave up a hit, a walk and a hit batter to put runners on first and second. A grounder to shortstop put runners on second and third with one out. However, he gave up a single to right to Gajitani to score the second run. The score was 3-1.
Sisnid pitched a scoreless sixth and turned the ball over to the bullpen in the seventh when he reached 98 pitches.온라인바카
However, Yakult fell victim to defensive errors in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, Musa laid down a sacrifice bunt with one out, but third baseman Murakami’s throw to first put runners on first and third. A sacrifice fly scored one run (unearned) to tie the game at 3-3. Sisnid’s two-hit shutout was over.
Yakult led off the ninth with a single and advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher at first base. A grounder to the second baseman ended the inning with no outs and a 3-4 tie. Yacourt took the loss in the bottom of the ninth as his final at-bat ended in a triple play. He allowed four runs, three of which were unearned.
Selected by Milwaukee in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, Cisniewski made his major league debut with Houston in 2019. He went 1-0 with a 5.48 ERA in eight appearances in his first year, then went 3-0 with a 5.71 ERA in 18 games in 2020.
After two years in the majors without a win, Sisnid turned to Nippon Professional Baseball in 2021.
He donned a Yakult uniform in 2021 and went 6-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 13 appearances in his first year. Last year, he appeared in 23 games, going 9-6 with a 3.54 ERA. He was tied for first on the team in wins. This season, he is 6-7 with a 3.48 ERA in 20 games.
