South Korea women’s baseball wins cold game over Indonesia in second Asian Cup qualifier

South Korea’s women’s national baseball team recorded a five-run cold game victory over Indonesia in the second game of Group B of the third Asian Baseball Confederation (BFA) Women’s Baseball Asian Cup.

The team led by Yang Sang-moon defeated Indonesia 21-3 on Sunday at the Sai Siu Wan Baseball Stadium in Hong Kong.

South Korea, ranked 10th in the world, dominated the unranked Indonesians, who have little experience in international competition.

The game was played in seven innings, but a “five-inning cold game” was declared due to the score being 18 runs after Indonesia’s late inning offense.

In this tournament, a cold game is declared when the score is 15 points or more in the fourth inning and 10 points or more in the fifth inning.

After a 10-0, five-inning cold-game loss to World No. 1 Japan the day before, South Korea pounded out 21 hits against Indonesia. Indonesia had four hits.

After not scoring until the second inning, South Korea exploded for 14 runs in the top of the third, starting with a bunt single by leadoff hitter Choi Min-hee, capitalizing on a Sasagoo error.

After scoring one run in the bottom of the third, South Korea added three more in the top of the fourth on an error and a Kim Hyun-ah RBI double.

The two runs in the fourth made them 3-17 and prevented them from achieving the “fourth inning cold game,” but Korea added four more runs in the top of the fifth to widen the gap and end the game prematurely.

Ahn Su-ji (5-for-4, 3 RBI, 4 runs), Yang Seo-jin (4-for-3, 2 RBI, 4 runs), Kim Hyun-ah (5-for-3, 5 RBI), and Park Joo-ah (3-for-1, 3 RBI, 1 run) all had solid performances.

South Korea will face the Philippines on Aug. 28 for second place in Group B.

The Asian Cup is divided into two groups, A and B, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the final round.

A spot in the final round means a ticket to the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2024.

World No. 1 Japan earned an automatic berth as the host of Group B of the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

The first through third-place finishers in the Asian Cup, excluding Japan, will qualify for the WBSC. Japan is so strong that it is virtually guaranteed that the team that reaches the top four of the tournament will qualify for the Women’s Baseball World Cup.

The 2024 Women’s Baseball World Cup will have a unique format, with Group A (August in Thunder Bay, Canada) and Group B games (September in Miyoshi, Japan) in 2023, followed by the final round in Thunder Bay in the summer of 2024.

Japan and the top-ranked Asian Cup nations outside of Japan will play in Miyoshi, Japan from September 13-17 in a Baseball World Cup Group B matchup against Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and France.

The third- and fourth-place teams from the Asian Cup will compete in Group A against Canada, the United States, Australia and Mexico in Thunder Bay from Aug. 8-18.메이저사이트
