Real face a ‘Kane now or Mbappe next summer’ choice period
Real Madrid are in a quandary after parting ways with Karim Benzema.
France’s Foot Mercato reported on Monday (June 9) that “Real want to sign a striker in the upcoming summer. They are looking for a new ‘No. 9’ after Benzema’s departure to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad. Kai Havertz and Harry Kane have been targeted, with Lautaro Martinez a plan B. But president Florentino Perez hasn’t forgotten about Kylian Mbappe,” the report said.
“According to Spanish media, Perez is still thinking about Mbappe, who he is confident of signing in the summer of 2024. He has given positive signals recently and has not extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). According to ‘Lilevo’, there is a possibility of using Hodriguez as a false number nine and they want a trio of Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Hodriguez.”
The 2022-23 season was certainly a disappointment for Real. They won the Copa del Rey, but missed out on both the Spanish La Liga and the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
The need for a rebuild is starting to show. The biggest concern is striker. The departure of longtime teammate Benzema to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad left a gaping hole. They need a world-class striker to tear up opposing defenses from the center of the front line.
Kane has recently been linked. “As far as I know, all options are open for Kane, including Real,” said David Onstead, a writer for The Athletic in England and a transfer market expert. I can’t see him leaving the English Premier League (EPL),” he said. Initially, he denied that Kane would stay in the EPL and challenge for the title of ‘all-time leading scorer’.메이저사이트
The problem is the transfer fee. Sure, Kane’s skills are world-class. But it’s hard to justify spending more than £100 million on a player who will soon be in his 30s and a free agent. A move for Mbappe next year is not out of the question.
Decisions need to be made. Sign a world-class striker like Kane for next season now, or maximize existing resources and then go all in on Mbappe. Perez is keeping a close eye on the transfer market as he considers his options.
