‘Kim Hyun-soo, Kim Gwang-hyun and even Yang Eui-ji… ‘ Veteran Dagger announces retirement after WBC

After the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), veteran players are laying down the Taegeuk mark one by one.

The Korean baseball team recorded 2 wins and 2 losses in the WBC group stage, staying in third place in the group and being eliminated in the first round. Following 2013 and 2017, he suffered the loss of being eliminated in the first round three times in a row.  메이저놀이터

Accordingly, captain Kim Hyun-soo (LG) first felt a heavy sense of responsibility and announced his retirement from the national team. Kim Hyun-soo said, “I didn’t get good results because I was lacking as a captain, but I’m grateful to my juniors.”

Subsequently, Kwang-Hyun Kim (SSG) announced his intention to retire from the national team through social media as soon as he returned home from the WBC. Kim Gwang-hyun said, “I grew a lot and learned a lot while playing for the national team. There were times when my grades were not good, but I was not disappointed, and I was able to become stronger using this as an opportunity.” “he said.

In addition, he declared that he would leave the national team even Yang Eui-ui (Doosan), the homemaker of the national team. Yang Eui-ji said at the Media Day for the opening of the 2023 season held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul on the 30th, “This WBC was the last international competition in which I participated as a national representative.”

Yang Eui-ji also felt responsible for the WBC slump. Yang Eui-ji said, “I prepared hard and wanted to achieve good results, but it was regrettable that the results were not good.”

Yang Eui-ji first wore the Taegeuk mark at the Premier 12 in 2015, and participated in the 2017 WBC, the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, the 2019 Premier 12, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. And until this WBC, he has kept the home of the national team.

In the meantime, his performance in his national team was disappointing. Until the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, he was sluggish with a batting average of 10.6 and 9 li in 31 career games.

However, at this WBC, his silence was completely shaken off. He played an active role with a batting average of 40%, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. He hit a hot three-run home run against Australia, the first game of the tournament, and hit a two-run home run against Yu Darvish (San Diego) the next day against Korea and Japan.

I did my part in this tournament, but I couldn’t prevent the team from losing in the first round. Accordingly, he announced his retirement from the national team and revealed his position that he would now focus on his team, Doosan.

Yang Eui-ji said, “I ended up spending the last part of my career as a player in my home team,” and said, “It seems that his last mission is to help Doosan a lot.” He continued, “I will work hard with my teammates to achieve the best results.”

He has not worked closely with pitchers yet, but he is determined to lead young players like a veteran. Yang Eui-ji said, “I couldn’t get along with the pitchers a lot because they were often replaced in the demonstration game,” and said, “I’m a little worried, but I’ll try to match it.”
