Hong Seong-chan achieves career high in ATP rankings next week… French Open qualifiers are also visible

  • February 22, 2023

‘Domestic Men’s Tennis No.2’ Hong Seong-chan (Sejong City Hall, 235th) is expected to participate in the French Open qualifiers in May.

Seongchan Hong defeated qualifier Gabriele Brancatelli (USA, Rank X) in the first round of the ATP Challenger Georgia Rome Tennis Open (ATP Challenger 75, total prize money $80,000) held in Rome, Georgia, USA on the 22nd (Korean time) 6- 1 6-3 and advanced to the second round.

After winning the Matsuyama Unicharm Challenger (ATP Challenger 80) in Japan last November, Hong Sung-chan led the national team to advance to the finals with a valuable victory in the Davis Cup Finals qualifiers this year.

After the Davis Cup, Sungchan Hong played the Chennai Challenger in India and then moved to the United States and is steadily accumulating points in the ATP Challenger. He rose 12 spots to number 223 in the live rankings thanks to his continued performance. It is expected to rise further depending on his performance in this Challenger competition.

Hong Seong-chan, who has reached the top 200, is more likely to participate in the French Open qualifiers to be held in May.

Hong Seong-chan’s performance is a good thing for the national team as well. In the Davis Cup, the one-two punch performance of No. 1 and No. 2 in singles matches is important. Last year’s champion, Canada, also achieved its first title thanks to the performances of Felix Ozer-Aliassim (#9 in the world) and Dennis Shapovalov (#27 in the world).  먹튀검증

The Korean national team enjoyed the splendid achievement of reaching the finals for two consecutive years, but tasted bitterness in last year’s finals. In this regard, this is also the reason why fans regret the vacancy of Kwon Soon-woo (Dangjin City Hall, 68th), who is currently in his prime, and Jeong-hyeon (27), who will play an active role as a one-two punch.

The steady growth of No.2 Hong Seong-chan will be of great help to the Korean national team, which does not have a strong player base, to achieve good results in the Davis Cup finals in September. Hong Seong-chan’s competitiveness is expected to grow further if he participates in a big stage such as the Grand Slam and gains valuable experience.

Hong Sung-chan will face Gabriel DeKamps (Brazil, 363rd) in the second round.
