“Championship pedigree” is why Philadelphia chose Nick Nunes as head coach
Mori explains why he chose Knicks.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced the hiring of Nick Nurse as their new head coach on Tuesday (Nov. 30).
Previous head coach Doc Rivers took over the reins in Philadelphia for the 2020-2021 season. Rivers led the Boston Celtics’ Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen to the 2008 Finals. In three seasons, Rivers went 154-82 for a 65.3 percent winning percentage.
However, playoff performance was an issue. Philadelphia made the playoffs in three straight seasons under Rivers. However, despite having the talent to challenge for the big prize, they couldn’t get past the second round of the playoffs.
Philadelphia general manager Daryl Morey eventually pulled out the knife. Morris fired Rivers shortly after Philadelphia’s season ended. From a pool of candidates, he chose Nick Nurse, the former head coach of the Toronto Raptors.
Morey chose Nurse because of his championship pedigree.
“Nick Nurse’s championship pedigree was the biggest reason,” Mori told SixersWire. He’s got creativity. He’s a coach who can get results with his partners. He looks at all the possibilities – his relationship with the players, his tactics. That’s why we felt he was a unique candidate.”메이저사이트
Nulls has been the head coach of Toronto since the 2018-2019 season. He proved himself in his first season, leading the team to the Finals. In five seasons at the helm, Nulls has compiled a record of 227 wins, 163 losses, and a winning percentage of 58.2%.
“The hiring of Nurse is just the first step toward a championship,” said Mori. But it was an important one.”
“I will ask the players to open their minds. We will build a team based on openness and cooperation.”
