‘1-6→11-6’ outfield homers + 4 hits lead to upset, SSG breaks losing streak as Hanyusum resurfaces

From 1-6 to 11-6, SSG overcame a five-point deficit and snapped a four-game losing streak, and Han Yu-seom (34) was at the center of it all. It meant more than anything else to SSG that the comeback win was led by Han Yoo-seom, not any other player.

Against Daejeon Han Yoo-seom batted seventh in the lineup in right field and went 4-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season, four RBI, three runs scored, and one walk in five at-bats. The four hits, four RBIs, and five runs batted in were all career highs and helped SSG to an 11-6 comeback victory.

Prior to this game, Han was in an extreme slump this season, batting just 2-for-46 (228 at-bats) with four home runs, 28 RBIs and a .576 OPS in 78 games. He hadn’t been this bad in his 10 seasons since turning pro in 2012. He was sent to the second team twice in June and July, but there was no sign of a rebound. Both the team and Hanyusum himself had to spend a lot of time in the car.

However, in this game, he exploded as if he was releasing all his pent-up frustration. In the top of the second inning, Han opened the inning with a single to right-center off Han Seung-ju, a Hanwha right-hander, to start the comeback from a 1-6 deficit. He pulled a 144-kilometer fastball on the body from Hanwha left-hander Kim Ki-jung’s fourth pitch for a two-run shot over the right field fence. It traveled 135 meters and was his fifth home run of the season.

With the bases loaded and one out in the sixth inning, Han Yoo-seom lined a two-pitch slider from Han Seung-jo Kim to right field for a two-run homer. The RBI single tied the game at 6-6. With runners on first and third in the eighth inning, he lined a slider from left-hander Lee Chung-ho to right field for a 10-6 lead.

With the help of Han Yoo-seom’s bat, SSG turned a 1-6 deficit into an 11-6 victory. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and set the tone for the rest of the season.

After the game, Han Yusum said, “I haven’t had much playing time lately, but I went into the batter’s box with a relaxed mindset, not caring about the outcome. “It feels great to be able to help the team break the losing streak,” he said, “I kept hitting good pitches today. I just trusted myself and stuck to the swing I’ve been working on, rather than worrying about the outcome of each at-bat.”스포츠토토

He was 1-for-1 (.139) against left-handed pitching prior to today’s game, but his home run, game-winning hit, and wedge hit all came off lefties. What made the four-hit performance, including the home run, even more encouraging. Han explained, “I’ve been preparing for lefties in various ways since practice. Instead of swinging at pitches, I swung boldly when the ball was in my zone, which led to good results,” he said, raising expectations for his resurgence.
